A Look Back at Founder's Day in April
Hi Friends,
Back in April 2024, Phi Delta Theta @ Cal hosted their annual Founder’s Day Golf Tournament, a scramble golf tournament that alumni and actives both participate in.
This was the first year this tournament has been held without RJ. An avid golfer, RJ always brought a fun and competitive spirit to Founder’s Day. There was always a friendly rivalry between RJ and the USF Phi’s that would frequent this event (and somehow win every year, including this one). Traditionally, there’s a cash prize for the winning team, as well as prizes for individuals who putt closest to the pin and those with the longest drives on select holes.
To honor RJ this past April, we held a mini putting tournament after the round of golf and fraternity banquet. We wanted to do something that reflected his love for golf and friendly competition, so we decided to have a putting competition! 10 people participated, and all put in $10 with winnings being donated to the RJ Pimentel Memorial Fund in their name. To start off the competition, all participants had to attempt a ~60+ ft putt. While most individuals made it in two strokes as expected, with the occasional rough 3-putt, Nico Roffe, an alumni, made the daunting 60 ft in one shot, winning the competition decisively. There were no other contenders for a one-putt, making Nico the instant winner, with no run-off rounds.
$100 was donated to our fund in his name, and the winners of the scramble round, longest drive, and closest to the pins award graciously donated their winnings as well.
Here is a summary of the winners/donors:
Nico Roffe - $100 (Winner of Putt-Off)
David Salazar - $150 (Lowest Team Score, Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive)
Antonio Anastasio - $100 (Lowest Team Score, Closest to the Pin)
Trampas Tanklage - $50 (Lowest Team Score)
James Morris - $50 (Lowest Team Score)
Shalin Kadakia - $50 (Longest Drive)
We wanted to thank all the Phis who participated in the Phi Delta Theta Founder’s Day events, and a special thanks to Rodney Pimentel for making this happen every year!
These contributions will go towards the second rendition of the RJ Pimentel Memorial Scholarship in 2025. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone that participated and donated their winnings.
With love,
Friends of RJ
